Brunching at Lucky's Café (Cleveland, Ohio)

Lucky’s Café, located in Tremont, Ohio, is a cute, little neighborhood hub. Tremont and Ohio City have been steadily rising as culinary and shopping spots (think Momocho, Le Petit Triangle, Evie Lou, and many, many more). Don’t be fooled by the name – while you can grab a cup of coffee and pastry, Lucky’s offers attentive table service with amazing dishes. We went for brunch (obviously).

My brunch entrée choice differs per menu. I usually sway sweet, but if there’s an amazing salty/savory offering, you can bet your bottom dollar I will dump the usual French toast/Belgian waffle choice. Which is exactly what happened at Lucky’s.

Backed-Mac-N-Cheese

I ordered the Baked-Mac-N-Cheese. LIFECHANGING. Lucky’s has mastered the crispy, baked top while retaining the creaminess of the majority of the dish. I honestly don’t even remember what the apple sauce tasted like, but I’m sure it was good.

Omelette

Waffles

My friends ordered the omelette and the waffles. I would definitely get the waffles (the little bit I tried was amazing). To be completely honest, I’m usually never tempted to order any type of eggs at a restaurant. If I had to choose an egg-based dish, I would go completely typical and choose Eggs Benedict.

Restaurant – Lucky’s Cafe
Price Point – entrées are around $13-$15. I personally thought this was a little expensive for a place that has “café” in it’s name. But, the food is amazing. They don’t have prices on their website, so you kind of go in blind.
Location – 777 Starkweather, Cleveland Ohio 44113
Atmosphere - Casual. Indoor seating

Food - Above average. Manageable portions (I took some of the Backed-Mac-N-Cheese home, but my friends finished their entrees). I 1000000% would reorder the Baked-Mac-N-Cheese.

&& other eating adventures - Sacred Chow

Growing up in the Midwest, you might be surprised to know that 90% of my friends are vegetarian; my sister is vegetarian and several of my close friends have been vegetarian for many years. When I made the move from Cleveland to New York, I found that there were many restaurants that didn’t have any meat or animal products on the menu. Although I haven’t been to that many (or honestly make the conscious decision to go to) vegan/vegetarian restaurants, Sacred Chow is definitely a good place to go, whether its your first, or fortieth, time dining at a vegetarian/vegan restaurant.

[the pictures in this post are not the most clear. many apologies!]

Sacred Chow is definitely not the largest restaurant, but in no way does that small space have anything to do with the amazing taste, generous portion size, or cozy atmosphere.

To start, my friend and I ordered tea (ginger for her, mint for me)

Power Bowl with Root Vegetable Latkes

Power Bowl with Mama's No/Soy Meatballs

For our entrees, she ordered the Power Bowl with Root Vegetable Latkes and I ordered the Power Bowl with Mama’s No/Soy Meatballs.

This was 10000% a filling meal – I did not even finish the dish. The Power Bowl comes with brown rice, broccoli, and/or collard greens. The meatballs held together nicely and the sauce was smooth, but had some chunks of tomatoes mixed in (I liked the contrast, honestly).

I tried a bit of the Root Vegetable Latkes, too. I would definitely recommend using the sauce it comes with, just to mix up the textures and break up the flaky texture of the latkes.

Chocolate Brownie

Vegan Brownie

Toasted Coconut Macaroon Cake

Dessert – AMAZING. Vegan dessert can be hit or miss, but this was definitely perfect. I ordered the Chocolate Brownie and my friend ordered the Toasted Coconut Macaroon Cake. The brownie tasted like a non-vegan brownie. Perfect texture and taste.

So, what's the story? I would recommend Sacred Chow to everyone, herbivores and carnivores alike. The main reason I went was because my friend is vegan, but even so, it was really good! I currently have a running list on my phone of restaurants I have been to, and would return to, and Sacred Chow has definitely made the list! If my sister ever comes to visit, you can bet I’m taking her here!

Restaurant – Sacred Chow
Price Point – entrées are around $13 (we used a Groupon!)
Location - 227 Sullivan St, New York 10012 (Btwn Bleecker & 3rd St)
Atmosphere - Casual. Indoor seating
Food - Above average. Manageable portions, definitely on the larger side. Not sure I would reorder the entrée, but the brownie is keeper!

Sharing Brunching Adventures - Why I Blog

With all of the food blogs (especially popular with the NYC food scene), why do I blog? It started with one main reason: I love to go to brunch. It's my favorite meal to eat at a restaurant and I try to brunch at least twice a month. Other reasons included the fact that I wanted to create an online presence for myself, without keeping it strictly professional and keeping in line with my interests. I also noticed a small gap in the blogging market that catered exclusively to restaurants serving brunch. While I don't think that I can necessarily fulfill everyone's brunching needs (head to The Infatuation, they're amazing and I get restaurant ideas from there all the time), I like to write about my experiences and hopefully, they inspire others to go to brunch in NYC or wherever they live. From my personal experience (and through reading other blogs), I've realized that the more pictures in a post, usually the better the post and frequency is key. I want to continue working on these things as my blog continues to grow!

Brunching Adventures - Palma

It’s a rainy, chilly Saturday afternoon and the first question the host asks is if we’d like to sit in the garden. But…the garden is actually more of a green house filled with beautiful light and even more beautiful roses. So yes, we’d love to sit in the garden.

My sister and her friend were in the city for the weekend and we decided on having brunch with a good friend of mine. Preceded by Cronuts and manicures, brunch at Palma was perfection after exploring the West Village.

Eggs Benedict

Not too busy and with attentive servers, Palma is a great addition to my brunching repertoire. The menu caters towards the salty end of brunch options, with a large variety of breakfast and lunch foods. As in, the brunch menu is more than just one page. I decided on the Eggs Benedict, while my sister ordered the Marscapone French Toast. Other entrees included Eggs Benedict with Salmon and a Spanish Frittata (not pictured).

So, what's the story? I would recommend Palma's brunch to anyone. It wasn't very crowded and we had no trouble getting a table without a reservation. Palma is a reliable bet for a good brunch and I definitely want to go back during the spring.

Restaurant - Palma
Boozy? Not unlimited, but alcoholic beverages (Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Aperol Spritz, Michelada, Blood & Sand, Kir Royale) are on the menu
Price Point – entrées range anywhere between $13 and $28
Location - 28 Cornelia Street, New York, NY 10014
Atmosphere - Casual. Indoor/outdoor (counting the "garden" area) seating
Food - Above average. Manageable portions, definitely on the larger side. Overall, we decided we would reorder the Marscapone French Toast, the Spanish Frittata, and the Eggs Benedict.
